Color of the Year for 2012

Are you ready for this? Pantone has announced jazzy, revved up Tangerine Tango as the 2012 color of the year. It is a grown-up version of tangerine — strong, sassy and self-assured. Look for it everywhere next year in fashion, products and interiors. Here is a Wall St. Journal post on the news.

This elegant wall fixture by Leucos is as much a work of art as a light source. Laguna is made from amber or white glass with gold foil and glass beads. But this beauty is also ADA compliant.

New ADA Guidelines issued

Compliance with these standards is required by March 15, 2012.

The goal was to integrate all the accessibility requirements into one standard and sync it with building codes. If it actually works, it will make construction and renovation easier for design professionals, landlords, developers and facility managers.

Paul Scarcello is a retired Human Resources Manager and presently works as a Guest Educator in the Birmingham School District. He works primarily in black and white and composes dramatic shots in this medium, but also has a skilled eye for color photography. His work has been exhibited at the Padzieski Art Gallery in Dearborn, at the Downriver Council for the Arts Gallery in Wyandotte, and at the Scarab Club in Detroit.

Harrell Scarcello is an interior designer and avid photographer. She combines her love of travel with an eye for telling, iconic photographs of architecture and interior spaces. She is fascinated by the complexity of surfaces and colors and captures this richness in her photos. Her work has been exhibited and won awards in juried exhibitions at the Padzieski Art Gallery in Dearborn and at the Downriver Council for the Arts Gallery. Visit her Flickr page for more images.

Dearborn Juried Photograpy Show

Paul and Harrell were pleased to have photos accepted into this exhibit at the Padzieski Gallery in Dearborn’s Community & Performing Arts Center. The show runs until March 2. Juror Monty Nagler has selected an interesting array of photos from the many that were submitted.

Antron Blend magazine on design trends

Empire State Building goes green — and how others can follow

A business consortium funded by the Carbon War Room plans to fund upgrades to existing buildings to cut energy consumption. Could these techniques help lead us to a cleaner, more secure future?

Older buildings are huge energy wasters. The iconic Empire State Building which just received LEED Gold certification in Sseptember 2011 will reduce energy consumption by 38%. The Merchandise Mart in Chicago is the world’s largest commercial building encompassing 4.2 million gross square feet. The Mart spans two city blocks and rises 25 stories. The Merchandise Mart became LEED-EB certified in November 2007.

If they can do it, then so can others.

2011 ASID Michigan Design Award

Good things come in threes. The Scarcello design team kept their winning streak going with a 2011 ASID Design Award for the Clubhouse of Prairie Lakes in Peoria, Illinois. The building is a multi-tasking, hardworking facility that has varied commercial uses.

The design brief from the client was to incorporate a FrankLloyd Wright feel in the space to enhance the exterior architecture and to tie to the local area which has a Frank Lloyd Wright house and is the headquarters of Caterpillar. The interior design team selected a warm rich palette with colors historically accurate to Frank Lloyd Wright. The finishes and furniture suggest a residential character but perform in a demanding commercial environment.

The award category was Multi-Use. Thanks go to our client Edward Rose &
Sons for their confidence and support.
